On Friday 6th February 2015, CITB’s South East Wales delivery team joined forces with local, independent training group Four Construction to support a community project in Rhondda Cynon Taff.

All Saints Church Hall in Trealaw needed refurbishment and CITB offered to help.  The tasks included constructing a new store cupboard, new sheeting on boarded-up windows, painting various areas of the kitchen and re-laying damaged concrete to the outside entrance area of the hall.  After initially meeting with Joy Rosser and Wendy Lewis, volunteers at the church hall we were able to establish exactly what needed to be done, produce a schedule of works and carry out a risk assessment.

The Four Construction Training Group one of South East Wales’ independent training groups, very kindly offered to support this event.  The training group was formed in 2009 on behalf of the local construction industry to provide training throughout the areas of Merthyr Tydfil, RCT, Caerphilly and Bridgend.  The group is made up of an executive committee and members who work within industry.  Several of the group’s members offered to provide the materials needed for the day and also allowed their staff, some of which are CITB apprentices to take time out of work in order to complete the work in the hall.

On behalf of the All Saints Church Hall committee, Joy Rosser and Wendy Lewis say “A huge thankyou to Four Construction and some of it’s member companies for giving up a day in February to help us refurbish our Church Hall. We are struggling with renovation costs and support such as this is invaluable.  Everyone worked so willingly and very hard and in just one day they built us a wonderful and much needed storage cupboard, painted the kitchen and fixed broken windows.  We cannot praise the young apprentices enough- they were friendly, polite and really seemed to enjoy what they were doing despite it being hard work.  Our sincere thanks to all who helped.”
