Construction centre of excellence

We are happy to introduce Pontypridd High School as one of our newest members.  Steve Jones, Head of Construction at the school is the member representative.  Pontypridd High School provides a successful and promising construction department that has recently joined forces with the Grow Enterprise Wales organisation in developing a ‘Construction Centre of Excellence’.  The centre aims to deliver various construction qualifications, short courses and taster days to all schools and PRU centres in the Rhondda Cynon Taff area.  The centre provides skills and knowledge to students interested in pursuing a career in construction, hoping that one day they will play a significant role in the industry.  Steve Jones states that; “this is a very exciting time to be able to offer construction courses on such a large scale to anyone who would like the opportunity to pursue a career in a skill based profession”.

The Construction students also work on many community projects which gives them the opportunity to work in a real working environment, gain confidence and help others whilst learning various skills. The next community project is to construct a Memorial garden at St Catherine’s Church in Pontypridd, in support of the children’s charities ‘To wish upon a star’ and ‘Ty Hafan.’  When the centre receives enough sponsors and assistance from surrounding Construction companies the work will commence.
